AuEx Ventures (XAU.to) and Fronteer Gold (FRG) (FRG.to), the Long Canyon buddies

Here's the year-to-date chart of AuEx Ventures (XAU.to) (dark blue line) versus Fronteer Gold (FRG) (FRG.to) (yellow line) in 2010 to date. If you thought that the ongoing success at the very promising Long Canyon gold project in Nevada would offer up better price leverage to the smaller XAU than FRG.....well, you'd have been wrong.

PS: Thanks to a timely headsup from the wonderful Gary Biiwii back in 2009, this author owns FRG. It's also been a recommended buy at The IKN Weekly since week one and we're now over 200% up on that position. We owned and reco'd XAU.to as well, but sold the position late May for a more modest but still pleasing 35% win. just sayin'.

The inside track

Back with another one of our occasional looks at insider trades, with two today worthy of comment. Firstly, we note that Eike Batista is buying small ($1.5m or so is small for him) lumps of Ventana Gold (VEN.to) and topping up his large position on the open market:

Ventana Gold Corp. (VEN)

As of April 8th, 2010
Filing Date Transaction Date Insider Name Ownership Type Securities Nature of transaction # or value acquired or disposed of Unit Price
Apr 08/10 Apr 05/10 63X Master Fund Direct Ownership Common Shares 10 - Acquisition in the public market 75,200 $10.208
Apr 08/10 Apr 01/10 63X Master Fund Direct Ownership Common Shares 10 - Acquisition in the public market 79,000 $9.676

That smacks of confidence.

On the flipside, what are the people running Baja Mining (BAJ.to) trying to tell us?

Baja Mining Corp. (BAJ)

As of April 8th, 2010
Filing Date Transaction Date Insider Name Ownership Type Securities Nature of transaction # or value acquired or disposed of Unit Price

Mar 25/10 Mar 24/10 Glanville, Ross Owen Direct Ownership Options 51 - Exercise of options -210,000 $0.350

Not one but three insiders are telling us that selling BAJ.to at the levels seen in the last few days is a good idea. Do you see a red flag here too, or are you daltonian?

DYODD, dude.

Keeping in with the insiders

A few fun insider trades to note from yesterday's filings:

More insider selling at Colossus (CSI.to) where persona non grata at Serra Pelada Kishida dumps more, along with head honcho Sussman and another 10k at $5.90 on December 30th finally filed. You have to wonder why these people are so keen on dumping at these current levels........

It's not all bad trades we note at IKN, though. Copper Fox (CUU.v) director David MacDonald has decided that he likes his stock here:

Meanwhile, reporting direct from HowTheOtherHalfLives, we catch up with Haywood's Chairman John Tognetti who's been shuffling a few tokens around and selling chunks of fast-rising hotpot Mirasol (MRZ.v)...

....and also AuEx Ventures (XAU.to):

AuEx Ventures, Inc. (XAU)

As of January 11th, 2010
Filing Date Transaction Date Insider Name Ownership Type Securities Nature of transaction # or value acquired or disposed of Unit Price
Jan 11/10 Jan 06/10 Tognetti, John Direct Ownership Common Shares 10 - Disposition in the public market -100 $3.220

Jan 11/10 Jan 06/10 Tognetti, John Direct Ownership Common Shares 10 - Disposition in the public market -2,500 $3.200

But then again, as the Tognetti dude still has 4,050,000 shares of MRZ.v and 5,139,450 shares of XAU.to hanging around (as well as a whole bucketful of in-the-money warrants and stuff) I hardly think we should worry about this one too much. Probably paying his lunch tab or something.......

AuEx Ventures (XAU.to): Dear Chartyperson (part two)

Following on from the question about Fortuna Silver (FVI.v) yesterday, here we go with today's query to the technical analysts and their strange vocabulary.

Below is the three month chart for AuEx Ventures (XAU.to). Is this also an example of what you call a breakout, dudes?

What I know is that it's a new all time high price for the stock. Presumably that's bullish :-)

Fronteer (FRG), AuEx Ventures (XAU.to) and Long Canyon

News out from both companies about their JV asset, Long Canyon in Nevada.

The FRG version is on this link

The XAU.to version is on this link

Here's how the FRG PR kicks off (and after reading the first para, any minehead will want to click through and read the whole thing).

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - 09/17/09) - Fronteer Development Group Inc. (TSX:FRG - News)(AMEX:FRG - News) announces today that new drilling along Long Canyon's intensely altered West Zone has extended high-grade oxide gold mineralization an additional 200 metres along strike.

The West Zone is one of five parallel elongate gold zones that make up the evolving Long Canyon deposit. Examination of drill core from the West Zone suggests that alteration intensity is increasing westward, and additional drilling may lead to identification of a feeder zone or zones toward the west. Highlights from important new step-out holes from the West Zone include:

- 7.39 grams per tonne gold (0.216 ounces per ton) over 12.7 metres, including 28.70 g/t (0.838 oz/ton) over 2.7 metres in LC285C;

- 12.52 g/t (0.366 oz/ton) over 12.5 metres, including 40.10 g/t (1.171 oz/ton) over 3.6 metres in LC291C; and

- 2.50 g/t gold (0.73 oz/ton) over 23.0 metres, including 9.62 g/t (0.281 oz/ton) over 3.0 metres in LC292C.

The IKN Weekly subscribers know how much I like both stocks; quality mgmt, quality assets, serious juniors. And by way of a reminder, Nevada is where Newmont (NEM) is looking to gather resource ounces in the future. Yeah, that's the same Newmont that has just raised U$2Bn for expansion and M&A reasons.

AUEX Ventures (XAU.to) in the next IKN Weekly

The next edition of the IKN Weekly, as well as all the usual fun'n'frolics (our 'stocks to follow' list which is already showing an up-to-date 7.1% profit as of today, political development in Latam and how to profit from them, company news and view etc etc) will also feature a NOBS in-depth fundamental analysis report on AUEX Ventures (XAU.to) with reco, background, price target and all the usual stuff.

Yes you guessed it, this is a plug for the site service. You don't need to commit for more than a month, either, and at U$25 for a month it's a lot of insight for a small investment. The button is over there on the right and it's be great to see you come on board. Any queries on The IKN weekly you might have, feel free to drop me a line and I'll be happy to explain more. TIA.
