Well not quite, but that's the idea behind this press release that A.N Other has just forwarded me (not on the US Dep't of Homeland Security website yet, I note).

So next time you book a NY-Caracas-NY ticket, make sure you ask for and receive this piece of mandatory fearmongering with your ticket. Spooky spooky stuff.....

THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY (DHS) IS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHETHER International AirportS IN VeNEZUELA that SERVE AS THE LAST POINT OF DEPARTURE FOR NON-STOP FLIGHTS TO THE uNITED sTATES MAINTAIN AND CARRY OUT EFFECTIVE SECURITY MEASURES. THIS NOTICE IS BEING ISSUED BECAUSE THE TRANSPORTATION SECURITY ADMINISTRATION (TSA) HAS BEEN UNABLE TO ASSESS WHETHER THESE AIRPORTS MEET THE SECURITY STANDARDS ADOPTED BY THE INTERNATIONAL CIVIL AVIATION ORGANIZATION (ICAO), AS MANDATED BY 49 U.S.C. 44907.

PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY OF 49 U.S.C. 114, I HAVE DIRECTED THAT A COPY OF THIS NOTICE BE PUBLISHED IN THE FEDERAL REGISTER, THAT THIS NOTICE BE DISPLAYED PROMINENTLY IN ALL U.S. AIRPORTS REGULARLY BEING SERVED BY SCHEDULED AIR CARRIER OPERATIONS, AND THAT THE NEWS MEDIA BE NOTIFIED OF MY DECISION TO INFORM THE TRAVELING PUBLIC. IN ADDITION, ALL U.S. AND FOREIGN AIR CARRIERS (AND THEIR AGENTS) PROVIDING SERVICE BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND THESE AIRPORTS MUST PROVIDE A SIMILAR WRITTEN NOTICE TO ANY PASSENGER PURCHASING A TICKET FOR TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND SAID AIRPORTS.
